As we were knee deep in snow, I drifted to the ocean images.

Ocean Meditation

I have been partaking in the 21 day meditation challenge sponsored by the Chopra Center. Even thought I have been mediating for many years, I enjoy being guided at times, especially by Davidji. I met him when I attended the Seduction of Spirit workshop in Whistler, Canada.

Davidji explains;

"When we meditate, we don’t have a target. We don’t have a goal. We are simply relaxing to the point of stillness and silence. Whatever happens during the meditation is perfect. If you have thoughts, if you fall asleep, if you experience stillness or silence, if you are listening to the mantra . . . all those experiences are perfect.

The powerful benefits and miracles of meditation happen when you’re not meditating, but in the remaining hours of the day when you are back here with the rest of us nurturing your relationships, practicing conscious communication, living your life with compassion and creativity, and loving unconditionally.

In this moment, know that meditation can be a piece of your life forever. And as you continue to meditate, your life will continue to blossom and bloom."

Being drawn to the ocean myself, my favorite meditation so far was the one where we were transported to Carlsbad,(the sweet spot of the universe) California by way of youtube.

Try the ocean meditation. Only fifteen minutes.

Outdoor Sculptures

I have been itching to get some time at the ocean and finally did!

Interesting how a layer of clouds can hang on the beach but two miles away, sunshine. That was the story of yesterday's ocean adventure. But that did not hamper a fun time.

One of the best parts was stopping at Westport Winery. Not only did we have a great glass of wine with cheese and crackers, but also challenged my dear friend to a game of croquet. It was a hilarious time with rules changing constantly since we could not remember from the days of childhood. There were definitely different opinions.

In the garden area of the winery there are two fabulous sculptures. The first one is called Pinot Noirvana by Jeff Vitto of Tokland dated September 2009. As you can see it made from driftwood, metal nails, and cable.

The glass sculpture is called Surfer's Last Hurrah by Opal Art Glass in Cosmopolis dated May, 2009. Looks striking in the sunshine!

Made plans to return to the coast next week :)

A Bit of the Ocean on the Trail

Summertime on the Chehalis Western Trail not only brings out swarms of people, but also an array of blooming native plants.

Oceanspray has plumes of white flowers that cover the foliage reminiscent of the spray from an ocean wave.

Interesting facts about Oceanspray:

Insects feed and find shelter in this shrub attracting insect-eating birds such as chickadees and bushtits.

The Oceanspray foliage is important food for the larvae of swallowtail, brown elfin, admiral, and spring azure butterflies.

Thickets provide cover for nesting birds.

The long straight branches were historically used for arrows, cooking tongs, mat-making needles, and other tools.

Now I am thinking about taking a trip to the ocean :)

Latest Watercolor Painting

Some paintings take longer that usual and this watercolor painting that I completed recently has been on my drafting table for a good month or so.

When I was at Sanoviv, Mexico, I was drawn to the ice plants which cascade down the cliffs to the ocean. I liked the spots of bright red, pink, orange, and yellow of the flowers contrasted against the green and red of the plant.

In a crack of the stairs to the patio over looking the ocean was an escapee small plant with one bloom. As I painted my rendition of the plant and scene, it came to symbolize the concept of "alone" and drew me closer to my feelings of being Motherless. My father died about 13 years ago, but my mother died just recently. This watercolor painting went through several transformations as I have and will. And when finally completed, it makes a bold statement to the meaning of "alone."
