Out Of The Box

Tried something new for my Sunday Sketch.

First, I sketched the subject matter of daffodils and tulips with a quick application of watercolors.


Then, I used pen and ink. Afterwards, I painted with watercolors.

A definite departure from my usual process of drawing first and then painting.


I have exited the box :)

Kastraki, Greece

Meteora is nearly to the border of Greece and Albania. I took the bus from Athens and stopped at the end of the line which was Kastraki, a very cute little town. The bigger nearby town, Kalambaka, is where most people stay and take the charter bus to see the clifftop monasteries. I, of course, had to be different!

Kastraki won my heart. I stayed in a small family owned place with their own restaurant. Need I say, the food was outstanding?! The day I planned to hike up to the monasteries, it rained so hard this Washingtonian stayed inside to paint.

After having one of mother's fabulous meals, I sat at my table and drew the street scene. It felt like a pen and ink composition was calling......


And then I added the watercolors.

Pointillism

A friend and fellow artist, Becci Crowe, has created a short video of herself working in her studio creating Pen & Ink Pointillism of wildlife and tribal cultures from her travels.

Pointillism is a technique of painting in which small, distinct dots of pure color are applied in patterns to form an image. The technique relies on the perceptive ability of the eye and mind of the viewer to mix the color spots into a fuller range of tones. Georges Seurat developed the technique in 1886, branching from Impressionism.
