Over the past weeks, I have mentioned the art show and auction at the Washington Center for the Performing Arts:
"27 Feet of Art.....And More."
The online auction has begun!
It runs from September 21 to October 6, with proceeds going to The Washington Center for the Performing Arts to support the Arts in our community. The Center was built by the community; it serves the community; and it is community supported.
There are 90 12" x 12" pieces of art that were donated by local artists exclusively for this auction and are on exhibit in the Mezzanine gallery at the Center. An additional 13 artists contributed artwork for a special exhibit which is found in the Orchestra gallery.
Bidding is fun! You recieve e-mails letting you know of other bids which were made on your favorite piece. That way you can decide to stay in the game or not.
You can bid on my painting or others by checking the website.

The Chosen One
Summertime in Washington is soooo outstanding that I have been rather negligent in posting blogs and probably left you hanging as to which painting was chosen for the 27 Feet of Art.....and More.
Thank you for your input in helping me select which paintings to enter. By popular demand and also "the chosen one," the painting of the fuchsia flowers was selected.
Ballerina
Joanne Osband
water-based oil
12" X 12"
The opening reception is Friday, September 21 from 5:30PM to 9:00PM. The artwork will remain in the gallery through Arts Walk. The closing reception is Saturday, October 6 from 6:00PM to 9:00PM. All artwork will be part of a silent auction to benefit The Center’s arts education programs.

Decisions, Decisions, Decisions!
I need your help......
Each year in Olympia, The Washington Center For The Performing Arts has an annual fundraiser called "27 Feet of Art....and MORE!" It is an art exhibit and online auction fundraiser which began with 27 artists, but has grown over the years.
Artists donate a piece of art that is 12" X 12" to raise money for the arts in our town. I bought a package of seven 12" X 12" canvases at the art store. Now, I have seven oil paintings to choose from.
I could use your help in selecting the painting to enter to be juried for the exhibit.
Please vote on your favorite.

Artists donate a piece of art that is 12" X 12" to raise money for the arts in our town. Submissions are in early August and the final selection is announced by mid-month. Last year I attended the event which was not only fun, but also an excellent exhibit.
This year I will submit an oil painting. Since I bought a package of seven 12" X 12" canvases at the art store, I will be asking for your input in selecting the one to enter. Bonus, leftovers will be shown locally at Holiday Happenings in November.

Artspace
In Olympia, Washington on Wednesday, September 16th at the Washington Center for the Performing Arts will host a presentation by Artspace from 7-8:30PM
The mission of Artspace is to create, foster, and preserve affordable space for artists and arts organizations. Artspace is exploring Olympia as a site.
The Artspace Story
Finding and retaining affordable live/work space is an age-old problem for artists, painters, sculptors, dancers, and others who require an abundance of well-lit space in which to work. Many artists gravitate to old warehouses and other industrial buildings, but their very presence in an industrial neighborhood often acts as a catalyst, setting in motion a process of gentrification that drives rents up and forces the artists out.
This is precisely what happened in Minneapolis’ historic Warehouse District in the 1970s and led to the creation of Artspace in 1979. Established to serve as an advocate for artists’ space needs, Artspace effectively fulfilled that mission for nearly a decade. By the mid-1980s, however, it was clear that the problem required a more proactive approach, and Artspace made the leap from advocate to developer. Since then, the scope of Artspace’s activities has grown dramatically. Artspace is now America’s leading nonprofit real estate developer for the arts. In the last few years, Artspace has further expanded its mission to incorporate the planning and development of performing arts center, other arts facilities, and entire arts districts throughout the country.
